ஸ்பீல்பர்கின் புதிய படம்
அமெரிக்காவில் படங்களுக்கென்று சீசன்கள் இருக்கின்றன - எப்படிப்பட்ட படம் எப்பொழுது வரும் என்பது ஏறத்தாழ முன் நிர்ணயம் செய்யப்பட்டிருக்கும். வருட ஆரம்பத்தில் பாடாவதிப் படங்கள், ஆஸ்கர் நடக்கும் மார்ச்சில் வெற்றி பெற்ற படங்களின் மீள் வெளியீடு, கோடையில் அடிதடி, மசாலாப் படங்கள், அக்டோபர் வாக்கில் (ஹாலோவீன் ஒட்டி) திகில் படங்கள் என வகுக்கப்பட்டிருக்கும்.
நவம்பர், டிசம்பர் மாதங்கள் ஆஸ்கருக்கென்றே எடுக்கப்பட்ட படங்கள் வெளியாகும் மாதங்கள். இந்த வருடமும், Walk the line, Memoirs of Geisha, Syriana போன்ற படங்கள் வந்துள்ளன அல்லது வரப்போகின்றன. (வெளியே நடுக்கும் குளிராக இருப்பதால், தியேட்டருக்குள் தஞ்சம் புகும் மக்களை மடக்கி நல்ல படம் பார்க்க வைத்து விடலாம் என்ற சூழ்ச்சியும் இதில் இருக்கிறது என்று நினைக்கிறேன்)
இந்த வருட அணிவகுப்பில் கிட்டத்தட்ட கடைசியாக வரப்போகும் படங்களில் ஒன்று ஸ்பீல்பர்கின் Munich என்ற படம் - டிசம்பர் 23 ரிலீஸ். இந்த விஷயம் இன்று காலை வரை எனக்குத் தெரியவில்லை (பொதுவாக என்னிடம் சொல்லாமல் படம் எடுக்க மாட்டார்...இந்த முறை மறந்திருக்கலாம்). ஸ்பீல்பர்க் இந்த வருடம் ஏற்கனவே ஒரு படம் (War of the Worlds) வெளியிட்டு விட்டார். அது கோடை ஸ்பெஷல், இது ஆஸ்கர் ஸ்பெஷல் போலும்.
இந்தப்படம் 1972 Munich'ல் நடந்த ஒலிம்பிக்ஸ் போட்டியில் இஸ்ரேலைச் சேர்ந்த விளையாட்டு வீரர்கள் பாலஸ்தீனியர்களால் கடத்தப்பட்டதைப் பற்றியது. Rotten tomatoes'ல் இருந்து:
"Munich recounts the dramatic story of the secret Israeli squad assigned to track down and assassinate 11 Palestinians believed to have planned the 1972 Munich massacre -- and the personal toll this mission of revenge takes on the team and the man who led it. Eric Bana (Troy) stars as the Mossad agent charged with leading the band of specialists brought together for this operation."
கண்டிப்பாக இது சற்றேனும் சர்ச்சைக்குள்ளாகும் என்பதில் சந்தேகமில்லை (இல்லாவிட்டாலும் எதையாவது கிளப்பி விட்டு விடுவார்கள்ல் கொஞ்சம் சர்ச்சை = நிறைய லாபம்). இருந்தாலும் ஸ்பீல்பர்க் படங்களில் சரக்கிருக்கிறதோ இல்லையோ, சுவாரசியத்துக்குக் குறைவிருக்காது என்பதால் தவறாமல் பார்க்க வேண்டும்.

Holiday season movies are much better than the summer movies. Harry, Syriana, Narnia... good feast
Billy Crystal said, he preferred The stage to Hollywood because, "you lay it in September and don't know if it will hatch till March"(something similar).
I guess it's a psychological thing. Nobody will remember a summer movie when the Oscar nomination buzz hits late in the year.

BB, I am not so sure if you need to be balanced in taking a movie about such an atrocity. Providing context to an action is different from being balanced - the former places the events in its proper place, while the latter would equivocate two disparate actions (Israeli occupation and murder of innocent athletes) as being comparable. Providing context allows the viewers to form a judgement, but being balanced effectively informs the audience of the director's judgement.
In this case, I hope SS has provided the context for the incident while not justifying/rationalizing the terror incident or the revenge.
I hope, now, that your thoughts are as muddled on this as mine. :-)
